About Matthew Braithwaite

Matthew studied printmaking at Leeds Metropolitan University back in the late 90’s.

He was a member of Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter, after a move to Northern Ireland he is now a member and facilitator of the Derry Print Workshop. As a facilitator Matthew teaches a variety of Lino/Relief Print Courses to both novice and experienced printmakers.

Matthew has exhibited his work throughout the UK both in one man and national group shows, he has been shortlisted for the A&I Artist of the Year in 2015 and 2017.

I always start every new print with the finished image in mind.

My way of working is to never make the image fit the Lino/Relief process; how I reach the end result is the exciting part. I prefer to explore my ideas on the Lino, so I often make smaller prints first before attempting the final Edition.

I find this far more informative than working straight from a drawing or a photograph.
